Havertape - Russia

havertape_family.jpg Our family is located in Vladimir, Russia. September 26th we handed the church in Kolchugino that we planted for 6 years over to a Russian couple. In December of 2009 we moved to Vladimir and opened Calvary Chapel Bible College here in Vladimir. From December to September we traveled to Kolchugino twice a week to continue services at CC Kolchugino. Now the Russian couple will continue on with the church there as our family remains in Vladimir to continue to establish the Bible College.

We have been serving in Russia a littel over seven years now and we are pressing on with what the Lord has called us to do here in a country that is very religious but very empty without the love of Christ. In this huge country about 2% of the population are born again believers. Pray for Russia! Pray for Nationals to be raised up through the ministry of the Bible College so we can reach their people!

The ministry in Kolchugino in the hospitals continues! This ministry began five years ago. Victoria Sorokina goes to the hospitals three days a week and speaks to women whoa re choosing abortion. She shows informational films and also has informational brochures available. She shares the Gospel of Hope with these women. This year four women have chosen life! The abortion rate has dropped in Russia in the last five years but not much, about 67% of all pregnancies end in abortion. Please pray for this ministry.

How did you become a Christian?

Jason Havertape: I was raised in a Christian home. My mom told me I said the sinner’s prayer when I was kid, but I did not choose to live for Christ until I was older. As a teenager, I lived in the world and got into some trouble; then, one day I was at work and I looked at myself in the mirror and wondered where am I going? Where is my life leading me? I fell to the floor in the bathroom at work and asked the Lord to come and live in me and change me. My parents prayed for me so many years, and finally at the age of 20, I gave my life to Christ. Praise the Lord for all of those who interceded for me and for the Holy Spirit continuing to chase me.

Britny Havertape: My parents were saved when I was five years old. When I was eight, my father was killed in a car accident. For a couple years we did not go to church. When my mother remarried, we began attending church again at Maranatha Chapel. On a Wednesday night service, I was with my mom and Pastor Ray gave an invitation to receive Jesus. I knew in my heart I needed Him, but I thought I was too young; I was 11 years old. Then Pastor Ray said, “If you are sitting there wondering if you are too young, don’t think so; I was 11 when I gave my heart to the Lord.” I ran forward and thought, then I can too. I have walked with Jesus ever since.

What led you to the Mission Field?

We met at Bible College in Murrieta, California. When we met, we both already knew that we wanted to be missionaries. Jason had been to Russia on a short-term trip and felt the call on his life, and I had been on several short-term trips throughout High School. I knew that God was calling me to be a missionary. When we decided to get married, we had already prayed together about where God would send us to serve on the foreign Missions field. We are planting a Calvary Chapel. God has given us the vision to lead people to truth and pure doctrine. There are so many lies, Satan is the Father of lies, and we want to see people cleansed, healed and ultimately live their lives with the knowledge of God’s truth. We truly believe that God’s word is sufficient for everything that we need in our lives and we want the people that God brings into our lives to know that as well.

What is your favorite scripture?

2 Timothy 3: 16-17 “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
